My thoughts as well. My D3 died suddenly from a knackered gearbox. I bought a newer D3 on Ebay a couple of days later but the seller refused to release it and came up with some b******* about a sudden engine problem. I upped the budget and found what might turn out to be a bargain D4. Everything about it seems better and having just updated the MMI firmware and maps.and fitted 21" rotors I'm really pleased. It looks so much better in person than in photos... and the interior...

Best of luck with it, it looks mint and decent spec too with 19" and a moonroof etc.
Having also moved from D3 to D4, I still reckon the D3 is a far nicer looking car and they still turn my head but I wouldn't go back.
The Autobox and MMI setup are light years ahead. Small things like the Heated seat settings and Air Suspension options are a step backwards in my mind.
In my experience, the D3's were better built and share less of the VAG parts bin of D4's but technolgy moves on. Better mpg too due mostly to the 8 speed Auto. Stop Start can be as much annoying as clever at times.
What I noticed most about the D4 in the first few days, is how much quieter the cabin seemed.

Apart from some t@at has dinked my door so will be needing to get that sorted
