I'm a bit of a Rover fan having owned a number of models over the years.
Now my Rover collection consists of the 16 as above and a Range Rover, yes I know it isn't really a Rover any more but it is a great place to be when traversing the streets. Paintwork was a mess when I bought it, but with some TLC it has come up a treat |

Thanks briand9, sadly I don't give lessons but could possibly do a short intro into the do's and don'ts of rectifying paintwork at a meet sometime. I am by no means an expert in this field, merely a keen amateur with many many years of experience.
It shocks people when you show them some of the things that can be done to paintwork until they see the end results. Take for instance my old Range Rover which had been repainted before I bought it. The paintwork was fine for most, but me being such a pain in the ass decided to take a piece of wet & dry paper to it and see how I got on. Every panel was sanded back with 2000 grade W&D until all the shine was off the clearcoat. Then using a cutting paste it was buffed up until the shine returned Then polished and a coat of wax |

It is a possibility briang9, might even have a mini meet at my place and use the rotary polisher.
Here is another one that I was compelled to wet & dry This is my S-Class which I have owned for 7 or 8 years now. About 4 years ago I had to have the usual MB rot sorted out and as it was a warranty job MB sent the car to Evans Halshaw in Glasgow to do the work. (incidentally Evans Halshaw is part of M-B Glasgow which is part of the Pendragon Group) (yes you also smell that rat) Well the car went into EH for the work and when it came out I almost cried at the mess they had made of it. The only saving grace was the paint was thick enough to seriously cut back and polish up to a reasonable standard This is typical of the standard of work Evans Halshaw paint shops produce Cutting back with the W&D taking it easy as you don't want to go through the clearcoat Then the process of bringing the paint back to life starts Once you reach a point in which you are happy and the end results shine through This was the bonnet before the repaint, not showing in this image are hundreds of stone chips, but the shine had a lot of depth and gloss to it and the mess EH made...dull no shine and almost dead looking This was a tense moment for me, I had never cut back this far before WHen I told my mate wat I had done he told me to go and see a psychiatrist and have my head examined Taking my time with the cutting paste until the shine started to return |
