Default 2000 2.8 2WD Engine Oil

Hey all. Could someone please advise what is the best engine oil for a 2000 2.8 2WD? I was going to go for Mobile 1 5W/30, is that a decent choice? Thanks.

Mobil One is a good oil, but they do two "Mobil One" 's these days.

The very expensive and hard to find one is a Group V synthetic which is probably the best oil you can buy for your engine. It is a manufactured oil, rather than made from crude based stock. It is also about £15-20 a litre!

The cheaper one that you'll find in pretty much any auto store or garage is a Group IV synthetic, pretty much the same as Castrol Edge or any number of "100% synthetic" oils which are selectively refined from a crude stock to achieve a majority of long chain hydrocarbons which is what you want for excellent lubrication in high stress areas.

Group IV's are excellent oils and probably the best value for money. Other than variance in additive packages, they're all pretty equivalent. The additive packages (surfactants, corrosion inhibitors, lubrication enhancers and detergents - mostly sacrificial) are important though, so you should always go with a respected brand.

So stick with your Mobil One, or Castrol Edge, or something 'branded'.

5W30 sounds a bit thin to me for the iron block 2.8, I would use 5W40 (or 10W40 - perhaps a warmer climate oil).
I used to use a 15w50 on my 2.6, although we get warmer weather here.

All IMHO of course!

Just get Quantum Longlife III 5W30, that's what Audi dealers use when servicing most of Audi's. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quantum-L...wAAOSw0O5aKBk3
