Default A few winter jobs on the old girl

Well the MOT is done and the old girl has been serviced again for another year by the local specialist.

A couple of small jobs need doing that I want to do to keep the car perfect.

The Cam Cover gaskets are pretty good but one is getting a little weepy so I am going to replace both of them to ensure everything is perfect.

077 198 025 seems to be the right part for a FL 4.2, apart from eBay where is the best price/ place people have found them for?

Default Weepy?

Hi,

I have a very slight engine oil weep tfrom the top of my 3.7: is that the kind of "weepy" here?

Mine is a running leak from the top end, 30 ml at a time...

Now its been a few years since I replaced one but it should be straight forward enough.

Is the current wisdom to use a little sealant on one or both or the surfaces or just rely on cleaning it all and purely the new gasket?

Regards.

The rubber gasket itself will seal Ok when torqued down, but I think a dab of sealant on the sharp corners is what guys usually do - I don't recall what I did to mine a couple of years back... I seem to recall mention of sealing the half moon seals if they're used too (mine didn't use those).
I can't recall what I did to secure the rings for the spark plugs if anything.

The engine workshop manual is in here
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9345
Full write up in removing and replacing rocker cover gaskets and where to put sealant.
My rebulid 'kit' came with 2 ebay gasket sets. Included the half moon seals, centre bolt seals and spark plug holder seals.
Pretty straight forward fit and not a drop of oil leaked do far
