I just saw something interesting on another forum. This http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381774097683 for just over £50.
I wonder if the old pump can be left unplugged and this one inserted into the circuit?

I've been wondering exactly that since my heater is pretty slow without the original rubbish pump. Those aux pumps are much quieter and more reliable. The big question is where it would fit as there's not a lot of space down the back of the engine. I'm inclined to replace the whole stupid valve block tbh. All it is is a pump and two solenoids. No idea why they had to make it so big and complicated.

I don't look at it that way, it's just plumbing so can be diverted, especially as the pump runs all the time.
Not sure exactly how big they are but there must be some space for one fairly near the current one, but it would need some hoses diverting. And two wires to power it.
I have no idea how many pipes leave the current unit heading for the HVAC that are relevant, if it's just one then diverting it can't be that difficult? Or can it?

I don't know if i followed up on my post, but i got the garage to disconnect it, didn't want to risk another worn out second hand part going in that might not last, and tbh i've noticed no real difference in terms of heating its just as good as it was before so im not to worried about it and pleased the cabin is silent now
