I was going to suggest a Superb, but you could go for one of the early Superbs. Get an Elegance, L&K or Edtion 100 and you'll get leather and lots of toys (my old Edition 100 had the solar sunroof, Sat Nav, 4x heated seats, etc etc). With 130BHP it wasn't slow, but it was even less slow when I had mine remapped up to 170BHP.

You could go for one of the newer ones, but you'll pay more - they seem to be holding their value as people finally catch on.

If you want comfort, the seats in a Saab 9-5 are superb. I've got a 1.9TiD 9-5 Auto estate (remapped of course) and I easily get into the 40's on my commute. Have had over 50mpg several times when I'm on an eco-mission. Very cheap to buy at the moment with Saab going bust and people worried about values...

Or remove it.....

Superb is a great car, I had one of the early ones in 2003 - 1.9 Tdi Elegance. Sold it to by my first D2 A8, which was actually lower spec than the superb, but quattro....

Get yourself back into a 8 Amar.
Why not rescue this poor old dog, it has a manual gearbox already, and see just how high mileage these engines can do.
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...v0hb?logcode=p

Plusses of a pre-facelift, no plasticky chain guides inside the engine to fail, no post-cat lambdas, no air pump in airbox. Cable throttle for better response.
If you really want economy too get a 0.56 gear set and you can enjoy 2000k revs at 70mph.

I would get it myself if I had more room on my tiny drive.

I saw that yesterday, quite tidy looking, but FL price and high miles means hes really waiting for someone desperate for a manual box.... At those miles, you'd have to question when the clutch was last changed, and how worn the manual box may be.... ?

That pre facelift manual I really really like. If the steering was on the right side (pun intended) I would seriously look into buying that, as I'm seriously planning on making a 6/700 BHP D2 at some point, there is no way I'd keep it auto. I sent Ranj a text about it though, hoping he buys it as he was looking into importing one from Germany a year or so ago. I've driven a manual facelift D2 S8, and it was awesome! Noticeably quicker then the auto.
Some good suggestions here guys, I have no problem with Skoda whatsoever, and would happily own one. But if I were doing this commute, I've decided it would need to be an A8 TDI, I would need the comfort. Problem is, I really don't want to pay £1,200-1500 a month in rent as it just seems like I'm throwing the money away, I would rather buy, and in London and even Leamington where I live, you can't get anything half decent for my budget.

True, true, clutch may not be in good shape at that high mileage and gearbox too. If he dropped it to around £2k it would be very tempting. There are S4 01E's on German ebay for around 600euros if the gearbox packs in completely.
Hope someone here buys it

Default Work and commuting

To be honest Amar don't bother commuting to london....life is too precious...plus u will be too tired to actually enjoy the experience....if your job involved multiple locations then yes valid question wrt car...but really because work takes such big chunk of ur life the last thing u want worry about is commuting for 3hrs a day...my advice live 5 mins from work and for anything else use the rs6...

I can guarantee once u settle in London you will realise the tube is excellent and you don't need a car there...

You can find secure parking for a weekend car in London at vaguely sensible money - my mate keeps an old sl soft top in an underground car park and it's not too pricey at all. Plus no bird **** on it when he uses it!
