Default Racing Sim build

Despite my insatiable fascination with the Nurburgring, the universe in general continues to thwart my attempts to actually drive on the damn thing. So, I will drive it from my living room instead

No fancy super-expensive sim cockpits here. I have plywood...

Painted it Audi R18 colours This is v1, hooked up to the TV:

Obligatory S8 seat, and a super-rare Nardi steering wheel from an Audi 80 Sport, on a custom adapter to fit the Logitech wheel base

I remounted the pedals from floor-hinged to top-hinged and matched the angles & spacing to the S8. Unfortunately Gizmo felt he was the more important element of this picture

The TV didn't work - I need my peripheral vision to also be moving to get a sense of speed, so I added triple 32" screens to it. Cable management is a challenge!

Tidied up and cat-proofed, otherwise they will get nibbled

Ta-dah!

I put a smaller and lighter steering wheel on it as the Nardi wasn't very responsive. This is still more car-size than the toy that came with the wheel base though.

Lucy driving an Elise on the 'ring

and also an Audi V8 DTM

This thing is immense fun, and amazingly immersive with the screens like this. We're now experimenting with a few different games to find which one we like the most as they all have good and bad points. Since Saturday we've both got in 30-40 laps of the 'ring without having to leave the house We're getting pretty familiar with it now and can do clean 7:30 laps.

Other tracks are available of course - almost all of them in fact, so I'll be using this to learn them before we go on track days. I'm not intending to race with it - I've done competitive motorsport and tbh track days are a lot more fun.

That is bonkers brilliant. I love it. I am jealous. And my current PC setup is not a million miles away from this, hmmmmm

Lovely -and has to be a red seat, of course . When do you start taking bookings ? (Truro is nearer than Germany, and I can, err..., drop Herman off for his favourite type of holiday at the same time ...)

That looks epic MJ. I’d lose weeks of my life at a time on that

"I'll just do a couple of laps after tea"
"oh, its midnight"

Of course lapping the 'ring isn't quite the same as a couple of laps of Spa
