I was thinking about it a lot and now I see this post.

I'm removing my spare wheel -- don't even need a compressor. I just accept risk and will pay for evacuation in case sh*t happends.

Besides, I've got only 4 proper rims, not 5, and I can't think of driving home on a rim that doesn't match

I'm keeping my spare in the boot, had too many incidents to prove its worth.
I was coming back from France last year when in some small town I hit a sticking out bit of high curb and bulged the sidewall of the tyre.
The peace of mind from being able to change it was priceless.

Years ago when I was driving to Barcelona in a volvo, I took 2 full size alloy spares, only used one

Like jayzee I was unable to avoid a catastrophic slash in the side of my tyre. I was lucky to get the car off the road to a layby. I was so thankful I had a real spare which also meant the eventual replacement of the tyre was a breeze as I left the wheel with the garage and collected when it was ready. I carry a tin of sealer/inflator also and next time I will make the choice again at that moment - blow up a lightly damaged tyre and write it off versus changing a wheel in my best gear on the way out. Belt and braces for me and s*d the extra weight and fuel.

Ok so while on the subject then spares and weight that is not tadgers. Who insists like me that the wheel bolts are done up with the brace in the boot? As that’s all you have to undo them if you get a puncture. The other thing is how many of you rely on the supplied jack that has a tendency to collapse if the car isn’t dead level?

As for the weight what about removing the seats and carpets?

Botang & Tobes are your guys for the stripped out look

I use my long wrench for tightening the bolts, but I use brute force and ognorance to get them back off again if I have to use the car wrench.

as far as the spare wheel goes then i am only doing what an audi rs6 has as standard.they do not have a spare wheel just compressor and tyre sealent. if the worst comes then i have european breakdown cover.
takin the spare out is only part of what i am doing and its not just for fuel economy. it is performance related that should also give me better fuel consumption when i drive like a judge( not very often ).
the next thing is to remove all the air out of my tyres and refill with nitrogen

Has anyone tired Contiseal tyres?
It just occured to me that maybe puncture resistant tyres are the way forward if you want to get rid of the spare.

By the way, I wouldnt get rid of the seats, change them for manual ones. The rears dont weigh much, probably under 10kg. But the fronts weigh 37kg each (not weighed myself so not 100% sure). Now there's a possible weight saving.

Ooo dear! just found this. Apparently Contiseal tyres suffered from premature wear. I wonder if they fixed this.
