Default That's better!

On my last MOT (and at the service before that) I had an advisory for the upper suspension control arms, so I decided to bite the bullet and replace all 8 arms and the stabiliser links.

I got the parts from these guys: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...:X:RTQ:GB:1123 who were very helpful, took my registration number and promised to get me the right kit (the S8, apparently, has one of the arms different to the A8).

The car feels brilliant and as tight as a duck's rear orifice! It's stopped shuddering on braking and it skips over the many potholes on my way to work without so much as a twitch. The whole front end feels like new.

BUT - unfortunately 2 of the arms were the wrong ones and had to be ordered from Audi (ouch!) and the excessive hand brake travel that I asked A4 Audi to look at required a new caliper (ouch again!).

The bill was horrible!

But the car feels great!

Planned mods: auto-dimming rear view mirror, dash cam (as steamship's), fit the ski hatch, refit philips drl's (or maybe not - nope, definitely not - horrible botch!).

So was it the special arms that only the S8 has that were wrong?

Both times i've ordered arms they managed to get it wrong, even though i used the same supplier they got it wrong both times. Quickly sorted they just sent out the right one as they'd sent one of each of the option arms, top curved is curved or not so.

It's supprising how you get used to constantly correcting the steering and then fit new arms and bang it goes where you point it, without the tramlining.

Keep the old caliper Jim it can be refurb'd

Sorry to hear about the wrong arms, Jim. Wasnt it a complete Meyle kit you got? What are the suppliers doing about refunding?

Yes, it was the big, bent lower arms that were wrong. But haven't heard back from the supplier yet - I sent an email this morning requesting return and refund details

How much different is the design, out of interest? Did you end up going to Audi for the ones now on the car? from memory they're North of £200 each

Not sure if it was from Audi or not - A4 Audi sourced them. And I don't know what the difference is. I'll talk to them when the boss is back from holiday.

But the original supplier has at least OK'd the return of the wrong parts for a refund

That worries me a tad, I mean, how would you assess that info......?

Do I have to hide my ducks every time you come to Aberdeen

Look, the Welsh have their sheep on the mountains, but I happen to live between the sea and a loch. Not many sheep, but plenty of ducks!

Oh, and I spent most of my life in Leicestershire, 'me duck' (probably a reference only East Midlanders will understand).
