I sent injectors from D2 S8 to be be ultrasonically cleaned when I had engine apart at around 125-130k miles. They tested flow and spray pattern before and after and sent me the result sheet. All had correct spray pattern and the same even flow before and after so really there was no need to clean them and a bit higher flow then the new ones should have. Shortly after cleaning one of them failed with intermittent open circuit and had to buy new one for £140 which now probably have slightly lower flow then the rest. It might be a coincidence but there will always be a part of me thinking that maybe it was ultrasonic vibrations from cleaning that made a loose connection inside it.

Maybe on FSI engine they are more prone to gumming up as they experience higher temperatures but I think they should still be fine if you use decent fuel.
