Default Best tyres for S8?

As some of you may know I have the S8 alloys off the car for a refurb, new tpms sensors etc.

I also need new tyres to finish of the job and hopefully have many miles of problems free motoring once I have spent all that money out.

Whats your thoughts on tyre choices?

The wheels currently have the Potenzas on at the moment which are 265/35 20

But the offer no rim protection so ideally I would like a tyre with rim guard and decent performance without breaking the bank.

Look forward to your thoughts

Can't really help as I have the 3.0TDI on 17" but I did try the http://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/se...udi-tyres.html
Audi tyres just to see what they would supply as AO (Audi original) and after some research of tests on http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk and searching prices ( http://www.tyreleader.co.uk was cheapest ) I ordered the ones Audi 'recommended' and had my alloys powder coated at TWS and the new tyres put on there.

Thanks for that I am leaning towards Dunlop SP SPORT MAXX GT as they are the quietest out of them all and http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyre...5-20-99-Y/?m=1 are quoting 236 which is not bad.

Continentals have excellent rim protection.

Just make sure the model you choose has got the FR index (FR = sidewall protection) as some cheaper models are sold without sidewall protection. It's kind of extra cost option.

I have Bridgestone Potenza RE050A's on my D2 S8, admittedly "only" 18" and while not advertised with rim protection they do have a slight shoulder that protrudes slightly over the actual rim.

I work on the basis that any rim protection might look like a good idea, but with a car of this size and weight it will just be pushed out of the way or scraped off by an obstacle like a kerb so is not much use. Just park very carefully or budget for a regular wheel refurb.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

I've pretty much always had Pirelli P-Zeros on my A8 (with S8 alloys, size 265 35 20" the same as yours). I had a quick search but couldn't really find any tyres with rim protection so I'm just very careful!

I understand there are slightly quieter tyres available but I wasn't too bothered - the twin-pane glass does a decent job of keeping any noise out

I've got a pair each of Michelin pilot sport 2 and super sports. The latter have noticeably chunkier rim protection. They're also a very good performing tyre in all senses. They're lighter than average due to the carbon fibre belt and I've found them very good so far - will be replacing the pilot sports when we get to summer

Try Protyre for prices once you've rung round and browsed a bit - pneus online are quoting £250 in your size

conti sport 3s ? now the 5's are out you can get them at better prices so they are better value
I would also put a vote in for the sport maxx Dunlops as they also have huge longevity if you're careful, I had 36,000 miles out of a set once!
