How funny.
My D2 lives between Hillmorton and Barby, I feel a mini-meet coming up! |

Chain disaster
Hi all,
Ok so I took my car to my local garage to get them to look over it and in the way I noticed the rear caliper was sticking slightly so another thing to add to the list 🥺 but the really scary part was there is a slight rattle coming from the rear of the engine 🥺 I really hope this isn't the chains? Any ideas people? It hasn't been run for years so I'm going to be doing an engine flush and service so I'm hoping it may just be it needs new oil here's hoping 😐

Rear calipers are common so I wouldn't worry about that. You can rebuild them fairly easily or get them refurbed.
There's only one chain at the back, on bank1, and its extremely rare for the 32V to have chain problems - I've never heard of it tbh. Is it a regular ticking? If so, could be a sticky lifter. If its an irregular rattle then its likely some hardware loose - the downpipes have heat shields which are spot-welded on and which can come loose. The 32V is pretty bomb-proof so I wouldn't expect anything serious is going on. |

So I'm going to flush the engine and do a full service on the car. I did manage to get it up on a ramp at work today and have noticed I've got a rather large engine oil leak, and also what looks like a large gearbox leak as it's dripping all over the cats.

Both fairly normal. The 32V engine leaks all over the place so quite hard to comment on where that may be coming from although cam cover gaskets are the first thing to change. 2x 077198025.
The gearbox leaking on the cats will be the rear output seal 018409399B. |

Yeah, the cam covers you can find aftermarket easily enough using that number. Reinz or Elring are good.
The gearbox seal as far as I know is genuine only, but you can get them from Prestige on ebay here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174237375392 |

Right so I've ordered the gearbox rear seal, all the front suspension arms, a pair of boot struts so getting there slowly. Just got to try and find a gearbox service kit, rocker cover gaskets as can only seem to get hold of the 40v version.
Can't wait to get started getting it back to its old self.

Cam cover gasket is here: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/reinz/980359
Gearbox filter and gasket is here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391396236298 Mannol AG52 is good ATF - its cheap and the gearboxes respond well to it. Plenty of that on ebay. I think its about 6 litres for a filter change. You'll need a tool like the Sealey VS70095 to refill afterwards. |
