Point is, if it's running faultlessly just drain the oil, change filter and fill with fresh oil.
Don't flush it !
I've done my both D3, plenty of guys on her done the same, with no issues.

But if you don't want to do it, then don't do it

There is no item in the service manual for ATF change, so Audi must have considered it.

I have 232,000 miles on my 2004 A8 and it's never had an ATF change.

I would go with ZF on this one, Audi don't make the Autoboxes.

I had a D3 from 60K miles to 240K miles over 5 years and had the ATF & Filter changed 3 times during my ownership. Thd Gearbox was perfectly smooth and felt like new when I sold the car.

My thoughts on the Audi service schedule is they include the bare minimum.
This makes running costs look attractive to leasing companies / company bought cars.
It could also explain why oil service intervals are now 2-3 times longer than they used to be. A leasing company won't care about long term issues like gearboxes and engines on fleet cars, they will be within warranty if anything goes wrong in the early years.

We all know Audi as a company is far from perfect but we listen to what they say re engine oil change, and actually we go above that most of the time.
ZF, manufacturers of our gearboxes, know them very very well and they recommend to change oil in the gearbox - why wouldn’t you listen to them?
That is my point, but in all honesty and I’m not being rude here, I couldn’t care less what people do or do not do with their cars
