My money is on a faulty pump or corroded wiring/plug due to the water leak.

I've just had exactly this fault on my D2 and it was an item causing the pump to stick ie the impeller pump jammed. once free its back to working fine

To update this, the fuses were all OK, as was the connection.

I stripped out the wheel arch liner and found the little black motor had some corrosion at one end and had seized, I also believe that's where the leak was coming from and how the tank emptied itself every now and again. Replaced with a new motor and it now works as it should. Also took the opportunity to clear out the little plastic mesh filter which was full of lovely Legionnaires' with some hot soapy water.

From what I remember when I had it apart, there is another motor for the headlamp washers, just a bit further up in the tank. I can't find a diagram for it on ETKA but does anybody know if it's an identical motor to the windscreen one? If so I'll order another and change that too for peace of mind.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. Was the motor expensive?

I cleaned mine out and it's now working well, but I'd like to be prepared in case it needs changing in future.

I think I removed the motors and they looked different, but my memory is vague so I may be wrong.

Think they are £55 for a genuine one from Audi, or £20 from Eurocarparts.

Once the wheel is off and wheel arch liner is peeled back, you'll see how it all works and exactly where the motors are. They're dead easy to take out and swap but be warned, whatever is in the tank will all just trickle out unless you bung the temporary hole with something.

Cheaper than a D2 one then, Genuine Audi one about £93 from TPS and Euro Car Parts one only £13, guess what I bought 2 of lol
The D2 one is a bit of a bitch to fit as it is held hostage by the Headlight, Bumper, Bracket and Air Box etc but can be wiggled out with a lot of faffing (fortunately not by me lol)
