Default Engine Bay Unlock Sensor

Dear Experts,

I'm having a little trouble with my bonnet catch on my '06 D3. The bonnet is fully closed, but the centre (drivers console warning) display refuses to believe so.

I've tried slamming it, to no avail. Does anyone know which side the sender is located and the best way of cleaning it/removing it? The alarm won't activate until it's fixed!

Thanks,

CBA

PS I'm fairly sure the main dealer knackered it when they changed the headlight bulbs.

The micro switch is built into the latch unit itself. You MAY be able to repair the switch, or temporarily patch the wires together so your alarm works but ultimately, it will prob need a latch

Ben,

Thanks for the quick reply. My bonnet has 2 main catches (near and off side) and a third, secondary catch, in the centre. Do you know which one has the microswitch?

Cheers,

CBA

Nice one, thanks!

Looks like tomorrow is another 'fixing the car' day! Had too many recently trying to diagnose a coolant leak (fortunately, now cured) in my wife's A4.

For anyone else who has this problem:

There are 2 microswitches to sense the bonnet unlock and they are positioned at the bottom of the near and off-side catches (not the central secondary catch.

My problem was that one of the catches had stuck open, so when the bonnet was shut it wasn't really holding anything down on that side. It was just making the contact though, hence the intermittent failures.

Solution was to lube the locking arm so it could freely engage.

Thanks again to Revo Ben for his diagnostic help.
