Boot Difficult to Close - Latch Motor?
Gents,
Done a fair bit of reading and can see it's a common fault but not what the order of fault resolution normally is....symptoms are; - power close drops boot down then hear a motor whirring as the right hand side goes up about 1cm, then stops and boot hasn't latched - right side of boot sits high regardless of manual / power close - closing boot manually requires a decent slam to get it to actually catch - power open only works when you give it a little head start and lift it about an inch, believe this is a seperate issue So far I've cleaned and lubricated all the struts, hinges and locks then yesterday I pulled off the plastic panel that covers the latch (just above bumper in middle of car) to check the spring, no obvious issue and appears under tension. From reading I gather there is a latch microswitch and latch motor that are both the potential issue, any advice on how to work out which is the issue and how to replace appreciated!! Thanks, Chris |

All models have a soft close latch which has a small spring in it like the one you get in a click-biro. it breaks - there must be a thread somewhere.

I've tried searching on this site and Google for various iterations of boot, trunk, latch, alignment, spring, soft close etc..... Still struggling.
Is the soft close spring you refer to next to the catch above the bumper or "in" the boot? Thanks, Chris |

There is a micro switch in the latch, I doused mine with WD40 and it's been working since
Looks similar to this. Disclaimer... Do check part numbers and compatibility yourself before ordering as I'm totally and completely irresponsible and don't know my ar5e from my elbow

If you trick the car into thinking the boot is shut by latching the boot lid latch with a screwdriver, the latch above the bumper should make a motor sound and the pin should move down within the aperture. https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-...pring-2916282/ |

Tried the screwdriver on the latch... Zero response from the lower catch.....
Would this imply the micro switch is gubbed? If yes does anyone have the part number to hand? Thanks, Chris |
