Default Trim re-colouring

You may have seen the satin black job I did on the front grill trim over the winter.


I did this because the alloy was going milky and while I could polish it up with great effort it went milky again quite quickly. So satin black it is.....
Next is the sides along the doors and then around the windows. Initial investigations leave me thinking that while the top centre section around the windows comes out easily enough, the section around the d piller can be very easily fubared if you are unlucky. So my plan is to spray in place for the window surrounds. For the lower door trim it is easy to remove. Just a single screw under the rubber seal in the door and it slides out. Remove some plasict clips and the trim is in your hand.

Before I started spraying them I thought I would see what the layer of protection was. I took a harsh polishing wheel and after a couple of minutes the top layer broke down.


I reckon that it is anodised which is why it will polish up but quickly goes milky. Anyway having removed the top layer I polished it up on the mildest polishing wheel....


That is Shiny! In fact to bling for even me (I know what your thinking Ian). So its onto the spraying in Pt 2.

1996 4.2 A8SQ - Ming Blue. 178k on a cambelt! Trader's 8. Delivered to A8Parts at Lifex.
2003 2.8 A8SQ - powder blueish. Fill in for a while. Sold on.
1998 1.8T A4 Avant FWD. Ming Blue (there's a theme here), PEX for the 97 S8.
And a list of non VAG going back 40 years before I saw the light.
