Default Aftermarket Headunit, Radio Playing from Nav Speaker

Hi All,

I've just replaced the Concert HU in my '98 PFL D2 S8 with an aftermarket item.

After a bit of faffing with various wiring harness adaptors and ground loop isolators I've got all the speakers working without the horrible popping noises it was making. I believe the car is fitted with the half-amplified Bose system.

The car also has the basic navigation system which gives directions via the DIS and a speaker mounted on the drivers' B-pillar.

The problem I'm having is that since putting the new unit in, in addition to the sound coming out of the main speakers, it is also coming out of the Nav speaker.

This seems to be much louder than the output of the other door speakers so is throwing the balance off and, as I don't imagine it was intended for full range audio, sounds terrible.

Do you have any ideas on how I can prevent the audio being routed through this speaker?

Thanks,

Bose is fully amplified with all 4 channels driven off an amp in the boot under the CD Changer.

Non bose has the front speakers driven off the head unit, and rear speakers are self amplified using min amps built into the parcel shelf speakers which feed back into the rear door speakers.

I dont recall exactly how the Sat nav & Phone were wired in (they shared the same speaker iirc) but as the Sat nav is virtually useless these days, as is the phone, can you not just disconnect the B pillar speaker altogether ?

Ah thanks IT. I guess it's the non Bose system as there's no amp in the boot.

It's a little misleading as there are Bose stickers on the rear parcel shelf speakers.

I'm certainly not using the Sat-Nav any more so I suppose I'll just disconnect the speaker as you suggest. I was just wondering if anyone might have known which pin it was on the wiring loom or if there was a way to disable it via VCDS.

Cheers, Mike

If there are Bose stickers on the speakers then they are Bose with the separate amp. The amp is located in the left side of the boot, behind the trim and buried underneath the CD changer.

It's below boot floor level, so not obvious. Great big thing with fins on!

Hmm, looks like a bit more investigation is necessary then.

Had envisioned it being a big black box with Bose written on it. I'll have a dig around under the CD changer.

Think the HU might need to come out again as it's sounding a bit flat. Doesn't have that boomy sound the old one had. Will give me an excuse to see if I can identify which wire(s) feed the phone/satnav speaker.
