The new ones seem to leak as well.
My '08 one has some condensation in the reversing light bits. The Dealer won't replace on warranty as they say the new ones will be just as bad in a month or two. I might remove them and dry out and seal properly..... I might..... |

Try another dealer, or kick up a fuss. I ended up having four sets of Xenons on the 335D because of the problem, originally they tried to tell me it was normal but I said look around your forecourt, which other car has it. Left it overnight they took pics sent to BMW HQ but got there in the end.

That's not so easy in Scotlandshire, the next nearest dealer is 100 miles away
I'm not too bothered by it really, I was just saying these light fittings do leak a bit. It's not as if there's water sloshing about, just condensation at times. |

I have a pre-facelift D3 and an offside wing light has lots of failed segments.
Is there a guide to removing these? I had a quick look and it didn't look obvious, but maybe I need to look again. I was thinking of opening it and see if I could dry it out and fix the circuit board, but knowing Audi, it's probably held together with tiny plastic clips that shear off as soon as you look at them, so maybe I need a "new" one. OK, I just won a set of pre-facelift D3 rear lights on ebay, so any removal/fitting advice would be gratefully received.

I've now fitted my o/s outer light and it's working a treat. The only tricky part of the process is getting the new light lined up with the panels to ones satisfaction; a perfectionist could take months over this stage!
I've also opened my old light, which had 2-3 failed LEDs, and there is no sign of water ingress. The construction is pretty simple, and each light (tail and signal) consists of three boards connecting in series, and each board has eight LEDs on it that are connected in parallel. It could be trivial to canabalise a light with some failed segments to get boards (or even individual LEDs) to allow the repair of other lights. So, if anyone had some less-than-perfect D3 lights, I might be interested in some swaps. I'll also probably be ebaying (or selling to A8parts) the three lights I won at auction that I don't (yet) need. Apologies if you also see this message on tyresmoke. Ian |
