That's true, but as its so easy and fast to replace the front bar, I'll probably do both. Should take less than 30 minutes. Also, I think the prices for the S8 spec anti-roll bars are relatively cheap, so why not go all the way.

Change in outer diameter from 30,3 to 31 mm is just an increase of 2%, but as the bar is tubular, the wall thickness has increased with almost 40%. I'm not an engineer, but I'm pretty sure the stiffness of the bar is considerable more, and easily noticeable on the car. For the rear, I've only found the thickness of 20 mm (solid bar) for the S8 spec, not sure about the others.

Anybody happen to know the part number for S8 D3 front ARBs? Mine are creaking like an old Spanish galleon in the cold and they need to be replaced.

My new one fitted by Audi creaked after just one winter, I should have taken it back before the 2 years was up but the warmer weather arrived and I forgot.

Wow, four years ago I said this would be on my to-do list and only now last month I did it. The job was very easy and everything fitted just fine, little bit tricky to pull the old one out and the new one in in the rear but no real trouble. Just remember to mark where the eccentric washer is positioned.
I did the front first and I was surprised how much better the cornering became, as mentioned earlier in the thread, stiffer rear anti roll bar should fight under steer and stiffer front should increase it in a way. But that's not my experience on the A8, the under steer was surprisingly less after only replacing the front one. Then replacing the rear anti roll bar just added a little bit more as to reinforce the feeling of less body roll. I like it! Remember, I came from Sport Suspension and the difference is not great, but easily noticeable. From a non-sport suspension I expect the difference to be much greater. I drive always in dynamic mode in the summer conditions (comfort mode in winter), and to be honest I would like the suspension to a little bit firmer in dynamic, but in the end it's an A8 so I'm very happy with the ride now with 20" wheels.

Nice, so what is the trade-off? I assume some kind of reduction in ride comfort?

Not really, maybe on the edge of too stiff on uneven surface in low speeds like in low speed, bad maintained city streets, but then you might switch over to comfort mode on the suspension anyway. On the other hand I found that I'm driving faster on curvy roads because of less body roll. The difference is not great, but if you think your car has too much under-steer and/or body-roll, I recommend to go for it if you have the money.
What I really would like is adjustable and speed depended suspension. Soft at slow speed and gradually stiffer at higher speeds, with several fine tuning points and four or five presets.

Thanks for the additional feedback, yes that would be good. I wonder if they will ever 'virtualise' the ARB and just use damper control? I guess they probably wouldn't be able to react fast enough.
