Interesting flight last night, went over us a few minutes after midnight.
Heard an unusually loud rumbling plane fairly low so checked and it was an RAF Globemaster coming from Rzeszow to Brize Norton. For those that don't know (including me) Rzeszow is in SE Poland quite close to the Ukrainian border and only just over 100 miles from Lviv.
Probably had an "interesting" cargo on the way there.........

e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Same Globemaster just arrived in Rzeszow a few minutes ago.....

It's only a short drive from the military base in Ukraine that Putin attacked earlier....

Rzeszow, Yavoriv, L'viv all places I know well. I haven't spoken too much about my family links with Ukraine, maybe hinted in this post

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showpost....5&postcount=19

Rzeszow has seen so much military activity over the past 2 months, mainly USAF. The RAF had been landing in L'viv prior to Putler's attack on Ukraine.

As some will know the An225 was destroyed at the Antonov base at Hostomel. No doubt the 2nd frame is gone after this mornings attack at the factory. Few days ago Antonov did a tribute to Mriya so she may live as a guardian angel who, together with the legendary and real Ghost of Kyiv, will guard the Ukrainian sky.

There's a Northrop Grumman RQ-4D Phoenix up at 51,000ft near Rzeszow, came from Sicily.
Otherwise known as the Global Hawk which is a high-altitude, remotely-piloted surveillance aircraft....

It would be remiss of NATO and other European countries not to be enhancing their forces/capabilities in europe at this time. I should imagine the intelligence communities are working overtime right now.

As for MattyLondons post about the AN-225, i hadnt heard that it had been destroyed. That's a serious loss of heavy lift capability. I was involve in an offshore project which required 3m diameter concrete pipe for a sea outfall. These came from USA. Each length weighed 20te and 10 were broken in the sea crossing so, in order to keep to the project timescale, they flew in 10 pipe sections (200te) in the An225 to Cardiff airport. That was some sight!

That is quite sad that the AN225 is gone.

I saw it come in to RAF Finningley a couple of times when I was working there in the late 90s. It was carrying a generator core from a new power station in Hull which was being built at the time. The core came by sea from the US but was poorly balanced so had to go back to be corrected. Again, due to project timescales and over-run penalties it was flown back to the US in the AN225, re-balanced and brought back. The core weighed something like 125 tons, and was loaded on to the aircraft complete with the truck that brought it from the power station. It needed all the 12,000 feet of runway to take off, and the wingtips cleared the tower by only a few metres! When it left empty after dropping the repaired core off (complete with its truck), it was able to take off in only a couple of thousand feet and flew over the tower on its side! A hugely impressive piece of kit, and a real shame it is no more

Hopefully they'll be able to finish the build of the 2nd airframe when this is all over, although I don't know where that's located and at what risk it might currently be of being destroyed as well. Wiki doesn't help on that front, aside from suggesting it was 60-70% complete back in 2009.....

In other news, we had a Chinook fly low over our place last night - not heard one in a little while

The 2nd airframe was in a hanger Hostomel, Kyiv. I've not actively searched for news but as said above - news doesn't look great as the russian orcs are destroying everything needlessly....

Antonov have set up a fundraiser...

In other news, an F35 showed up on adsbexchange the other day flying out from Lakenheath.

There's an awful lot of "stuff" circling around over SE Poland and Romania.
But isn't Biden due in Rzeszov today?

And there's a USAF 757 VC-32A number 99-0003 en route from Brussels to Rzeszow right now. Air Force Two?
