Default What is this?

I have installed this thing in my garage on opposite wall to entrance doors.

In my opinion, this is essential thing for all A8 owners who have ordinary size UK garage.

Any ideas about purpose of this device?

Does the red tube piece fire a Dalek like exterminate ray at any potential thief if they try to steal it?

Going from the yellow warning triangle on the device my guess would be that it is laser that marks dot or line so that you can line up car in the centre of garage.

Brian, this is not anti-theft / security thing.

Correct Anairs! I didn't notice the triangle myself on those pictures to be honest.

Yes, this is industrial grade plane laser. It creates sharp plane of light which is aligned exactly in the middle of garage opening. Because standard garage doors in the UK are only 7" wide it is tricky (and dangerous) to park A8 in such garages.

Now driving into very tight garage opening is no problem at all. All I need to do is to align sharp line with climate control sun sensor, which is exactly in the middle of dashboard. laser is controlled remotely from button in a car. When I finish installation of new garage doors this laser will be switched on from doors operator automatically.

I know it is a bit late for you but did you consider using green laser instead of red as they are less damaging to eyes if you happen to look straight into it. Or is availability an issue?
