Light warnings
Hello
My car was originally supplied in Italy and being macho, all warnings have been turned off. I'm used to something telling me I've left my lights on which has cost me a flat battery. Anyone know if I can turn these back on? And while we're at it, change the start up display from Italian to English? Thanks |

I'm used to such a buzzer on other, lesser motors, but it either doesn't work or has been turned off. All other warning lamps [except airbag of course] seem to work fine

Could be two main causes, dodgy door lock module microswitch , do your interior lights work properly ? If not not suspect the door switch or The chime for the cluster is dead. Do the low temp / low fuel / door open chimes work as they should? if they dont then its a dead chime maybe? If you have vagcom i think that there are chime 1 and chime 2 output tests that can be done to verify the death of the chime. I have a hunch that the country setting will have something to do with this but you need to enable UK settings using VagCom I think

This is from the ross tech site but for a VW toureg - may or may not be helpful!! You would need to work out the coding for the lights on chime. . .
17-Instruments: -- KWP-2000 VAG-COM works fine. Recoding for chime and warning lamp preferences: [Select] [17-Instruments] [Recode - 07] Write down the existing 7-digit Soft. Coding for future reference. Enter the new code from below [Do It!] Look at the existing 7-digit Soft. Coding. Look at the fourth digit in the coding. Add the values for the options together to get the correct coding. 0 - No available equipment +1 - Brakepad wear sensor warning active +2 - Seatbelt warning active +4 - Washer fluid level warning active. Look at the fifth digit in the coding (Market version): 1 - "Europe" (No Navigation system acceptance screen, also see 56-Radio for other changes) 2 - "USA" 12 hour clock (Navigation system acceptance screen) 3 - "Canada" 4 - "UK" Example: If you have all of the above warnings active and your car is set to USA (and your factory Soft. Coding is 0007231), if you would like to remove the seatbelt warning, subtract 2 from the fourth digit to make the coding 0005231. If you would like to keep the seatbelt warning, but remove the Navigation acceptance screen, then change the fifth digit from 2 to 1 to make the coding 0007131. If you'd like to remove both the seatbelt warning and the Navigation acceptance screen subtract 2 from the fourth digit and change the fifth digit from 2 to 1 to make the coding 0005131. I'll try and have a look at my vagcom and see whats in there. . . .

My lights on chime didn't work because the door switch wasn't working. It is a double pole switch so the door ajar lamp would come on but the puddle lights, in door lights, and lights on chime didn't work.
As for the lights on indicator on the dash, mine hasn't a bulb in it and a piece of factory tape over the hole. I have no idea if it would work if I just put a bulb in. |

Many thanks for all this help.
Interior lights work fine on door open. Puddle lights etc OK I have no chimes on low temp, low fuel and door open, but the central info system reports all these things. So - either chime dead or programmed out. I need to get myself to a VAG COM expert I think Thanks again guys Last edited by christhompson; 8th September 2010 at 04:00 PM. |
