Default Lost DIS

Had battery problems again at the week end and had to get a jump, i had popped into the house and as i was coming back out i hear the 8 start when i got to the car matey is smiling "there you go mate" cheers is say as i see the sun roof opening.
I didn't think too much of it at the time but i took the car for a bit of a run and noticed i get the Press brake pedal notice but as soon as a gear is engaged it goes blank. The sunroof wouldn't close i had to wind it shut by hand, once i had and replaced the controls it now operates as normal. But i still have no DIS.

I have not checked any fuses yet but how sensitive are the electrics if matey had put the jump leads on the wrong terminal first? Because i'm anal like that and remember that in the owners book when removing the battery from the car Negitive comes off first, and goes on last. Which is what i did when i took it out for charging and the sunroof didn't open on it's own.

Anyone else had this?

Check underneath the stalk on the right of the steering column. There is a switch there that turns the DIS off. press it when the ignition is on.

For what it's worth, I had battery problems when I picked up my new car. It wouldn't hold charge, and the electrics and gearbox (limp home mode) were doing strange things. I charged the darn thing a number of times, and some electrical items behaved, others did not.

Dealer changed the battery straight away, and everything is 100% - been okay now for a few months since the change.

If your battery isn't up to it - chop it for a new one.

2002 S8 BTW.

A new one????

Yeah i know, but i had to take it out for a charge up first but in the back of my mind i'm wondering when it's going to die again now with the winter slowly on it's way.

A few cold cranking mornings and i think it'll be off to the electric fence.

Back to the DIS couldn't get it back on so off with the Neg wire from the battery left it 10 mins reconnected it and bing like it never happened.

Honestly mate, i've seen so many of these "complicated" cars do strange things if the battery isn't up to it.

If you are having troubles now while the weather is mild... well, you know what's coming in the next few months

New battery definitely worth it. My diesel was becoming reluctant to start and a few odd things happening. Researched and replaced with top spec Varta type 019. Better spec than the original 017 and competitvely priced at £125. 4 year EU wide warranty and the car behaves like new. Well worth the money IMO
