A8/S8 recaro seat weights
Finally I found some cheap recaros to play with for my manual seat mod, in the hope of losing some weight.
In case you are interested, I can confirm, front recaros weigh 36kg each, rear seat backrest weighs 25kg, bench weighs 8kg. I will be taking the front seat and possibly rear backrest apart and will post weight of all the components. |

Finally got round to dismantling the base of the recaro seat. The base containing all the forward/backward up/down motors weighs around 9kg.
One option may be to replace it with a manual adjust base, although I suspect this may only save around 4-5kg of weight (if it even fits). Another idea I had was to find out if the recaro foam cushions and leather will fit onto a completely manual seat frame. A third option could be to go for Audi TT manual recaros, on the web it says they weigh 22kg each, thats a saving of 28kg for 2 seats and they look close to stock. The next task is finding out how much the adjustable lumbar support weighs. Dont hold your breath I'm a slow worker |

^^^ Bro, at this rate, soon you'll have no S left in your 8! Why not just get an el cheapo A8 4,2 QS, and strip her till she's just legal? She'll be pretty quick, that's for sure.

I just cant help it, I'm addicted to speed, I really want to see how fast it will go with a manual box and less weight. |

Goran, the maximum speed on an S8, manual or tip will remain at 155.3 mph. Shedding weight won't increase your top speed either, it'll just get there quicker.
I love my comforts, it's one of the reasons I bought the D2. The S8 has a sporty theme, but is in no way a sports car. I would definitely consider something smaller for that, or get a cheap D2, remove everything that's not required for the car to drive legally. Ported and polished heads, aggressive camshafts, bigger injectors with an appropriate map would make for an interesting D2. 330 hp can be achieved, and if you want more, there's always laughing gas, or a home-brewed supercharger.
