What happens when you use the key in the lock?

Sounds like the rod across to the latch is disconnected if the key doesn't work. Or the actual latch mechanism is broken/jammed.
It's not the most complex/sophisticated setup, based on my memory of replacing a faulty latch. But getting at it is a different issue....

Have you tried both locks, driver's door and boot?

There's a solid aluminium panel behind the rear seat, but.......
There is a small panel for the ski hatch, largely cut out with just a few lugs holding it. You can access that from inside the car and cut it out, probably without even needing to take the seat back out, through the armrest hole.
I cut mine out easily enough, but from the boot side, to fit a ski hatch.

BUT it's not very big, covered with an adhesive black material on the seat side and there's a tough felt-like panel clipped on the boot side.
And once you've got access I'm not sure it would help as the latch mechanism is still pretty inaccessible and you would be poking tools from a long way away.

I wonder if a call to A8parts would help, they know exactly how these machines are put together.

Ah I see. Sorry, I misunderstood/misread.

In that case, I'd second HPsauce's suggestions first.

Failing that, if there's no non-destructive way in, I'd be look for a way that minimises the damage .... perhaps by cutting the bottom off the spare wheel well?

Well I would be asking an expert first before doing anything, but I would have thought one way in would be taking off the numberplate and going in there somehow.
