I only bought the cam locking bar and crank pin to check the timing on my previous S8, and it was fine. This is why I didn't buy the sprocket puller. The previous owner had the timing belt changed at a dealer who used pain marks to align the belt and sprockets. My mechanic changed the timing and V belt later.
I wanted to remove the V belt to test if a slight squeaking noise on a wet day on start up was from one of the V-belt accessories or from something on the timing belt. In the end I read on forums and just slipped the V-belt off the tensioner and off the crank pulley to temporarily disable it, so I didn't need to remove the fan either
It turned out to be something on the V-belt, probably the power steering pulley.

You don't need a sprocket puller lads. Tap them lightly with a block of wood sandwiched to avoid damage. The shock pops them off - its how its done everyday in most garages

I have access to a puller that will work. The hammer technique may be used as a last resort.
Goran, I had that exact issue with my V belt, as it was cheap and an easy job to do, I replaced it and it sorted the issue. Really looking forward to getting into the timing belt job. It'll be the suspension component and rubber mountings after that.
