Default Rear windows

According to the spec sheet in my handbook my rear windows are burglar- restrained VW8 code.
Does this mean they are twin pane and tinted.

As mine are tinted, I thought that it was proper glass, not a film. Because having to remove the blind the rod caught and removed some of the film.
This film must have been fitted with the window out of the car.

Can anyone confirm that Audi would have done this.

Thanks
David

Perhaps the windows were not tinted from the factory (which WAS an option you could choose on ordering) but have later been tinted like many have been

I just went and checked mine for you.

It would appear there is a thin film/tint but it is sandwiched between the 2 panes of glass so wouldn't be able to be snagged by something.

Not sure whether that helps you or not!

The film is aftermarket, in addition to whatever the standard tint is. The burglar restrained glass is -as said- just laminated glass, but the panes are slightly different thicknesses so their natural frequency is tuned differently which helps stop them from transmitting sound (acoustic glass).

Thanks everyone for your help, I was hoping that it was factory but never mind, will have get someone to re- apply on N/S .

Just to work out why the blind won't properly now , it seems one job leads to another.

I was replacing the door handle, then the light bar.
The handle was a pig to remove with the wiring connector there must have been a better design surely.
Just got the front N/S door light to do.
Also been replacing the LED strips and it makes a difference when dark, as coming home last night around 11pm.

Thanks
David

Certainly sounds like it's an aftermarket tint. Easy way to tell... look at the rear screen, if you can see the orange defrost lines between the glass and tint film then it's not factory.

That's what I've got...

but note that the light blue tint on the twin pane is Twin-pane heat and UV insulating glass, with additional reflective coating on outer pane to reduce interior heat build-up, a £360 optional extra on everything apart from W12 and S8.

Same thing as you see on some decent spec'd S-Classes where it looks like it has an almost opaque dark blue mirrored tint.

I have the laminated glass too, although it comes with almost invisible heating elements in the rear screen, so there are no orange lines.

As it happens, I also have aftermarket tint film and the nice thing is that there's no halo effect on the rear screen because the black surround is sandwiched between the two panes of glass, rather than being stuck to the inside.
