Thats the only problem with working on your own car, some seized on bolt. What pads are you using? Ferodoo DS2500 are supposed to be the bomb.

Conan.

These vacuum actuators. On my car both are fully 'big' when engine off. As they should be.

At startup, only the left one (looking from the front) actuates. The other only moves if given a gentle prod with a fingertip. Then it moves as rapidly as its fellow.

At shutdown, both return to the correct, expanded condition, promptly. As they should.

Any idea how I might encourage the 'lazy' one to join in without a fingering?

It seems to have no problem moving the valve, it's just one is slow to get moving.

May be just a bit stiff at the start. Try dosing it with WD40.
There may also be a bit of a vacuum leak, when you prod it you add the extra force need to operate it.

Once it has operated will it work every time you rev the engine?

Conan

No. It's staying in the 'at rest' 'un sucked' position the whole time.

There's plenty vacuum, cos it moves very quickly when fingered.

(Oooh err missus)

Maybe I could strip her down and get inside her?

Well, today I stripped the 'slow' one off the car and carefully fannied about with it.

Actually, I couldn't quite get it off as its ball joint seemed firmly attached and looked likely to break if forced.

I refitted it carefully and cable tied the vacuum pipe.

Started up 5 times and on each occasion the bellows collapsed (as it should) but not quite as quickly as the other. Maybe took 3-4 secs before it collapsed.

However, it collapsed 100% of the time and perhaps it will get quicker now it's used to moving.

The car is definately more responsive at small throttle openings now. I rarely see 5200 rpm, so frankly its responsiveness at low speed is of more value.

It's got better acceleration now with the same pedal pressure, so likely better on fuel?

I fitted a new MAF also, as my own was plainly not right.

Car seems happy. Me happy!
