EPB Faults - final shot in the dark!
Hello
I've had regular fault codes coming up for my S8, namely 02596 - Rear Brake Pads Worn 008 - Implausible Signal and 02438 - Right Parking Brake Motor Hall Sensor 008 - Implausible Signal - MIL ON which I can't clear. I've just done discs and pads, done the full VCDS adaptation process for the pads and the function test several times, all of which has made no difference, the brake works perfectly, voltages across both calipers are good. I've checked both connectors, both were immaculate inside, I've continuity checked between the control unit and the caliper, again all good. Any suggestions/thoughts before I invest in a new caliper? It's only done 49K and looks nearly new........ Sir Wil, can I have my D2 back?????????

Did you cycle the ignition when doing the procedure?
I seem to remember reading something about the ignition having to be turned off at some point in the pad change sequence, was that done?

The procedure was followed to the letter..............made no difference and seemed to go perfectly, it just didn't clear the errors.

The hall sensor on the motor being out would possibly lead to the motor not being exactly sure where it is and as a result, not sure if the pad is as thick as is claimed.

I suspect you're right.
I've just repeated the whole process and checked that the pad thickness adaptation had taken (it had) and just checked the brake switch function as there are a couple of yank threads re this causing issues, it's working fine. New caliper time. My calipers are painted black, that'll equal a couple of hundred extra pounds from Audi! Are all S8 rear calipers the same?

Could you not replace just the motor?

The D2 continues to be a lovely everyday car and the rear brakes are working just fine with no fault codes
Though one of the plastic tubes for the windscreen washers popped off! I mean, how dare it go wrong! |

An outrage entirely due to sloppy workmanship on the part of the previous owner!
I replaced them and the scuttle at some point I'm sure!

I think during a frozen morning last week the nozzle was not working and it popped off.
I mean it took at least 10 seconds to fix and now has a zip tie on for good measure. That's the trouble with these expensive Audis they just need to be constantly looked after |
