Default Spy on the Mechanics

Looks like a cool feature, but it's not a live feed, they video the spanner monkey and then send it to you to authorise the work, showing the problem they feel needs your hard-earned to rectify before you authorise.

I have seen Audi dealers advertise that you can watch live feed of your car in waiting room while they work on your car. So this is like an extension for customers that drop off car and leave instead of waiting. Live streaming would be nicer instead of uploaded videos.

So, they send you a video of the mechanic pointing to a pool of oil below the car (placed there by the mechanic?), or the engine running with a terrible knocking sound (mechanic's mate banging on an oil drum out of shot?) or the emiisions thingy reading high (connected to someone else's exhaust?)....

....so this is supposed to give me confidence in the stealers?

I've had too many really bad experiences at the stealers (Leicester and Glasgow take a bow) to go back.

Ben Williamson's worst nightmare. I reckon the ba5tard just went around the back and read a paper every time someone dropped their car off for a service.

Cant say that it would encourage me to use them. I'm very happy talking with the guys at my local indy who phone me up on an old fashion phone or who take me under the car to point out whats wrong and then show me the parts they have replaced when the work's done.

Can they really show anything meaningful over a phone screen?

Just because you can do this stuff doesnt mean you need to do it.

My local dealer's been doing that for a couple of years now, but they always give me a call to discuss options, only thing they've ever reported was worn rear discs that I already knew about. They replaced them, and I had them do the fronts as well, but they told me it wasn't neccessary - still had it done as there was a lip on the disc & I like brakes to be 'spot on'.
