Fiat Tipo diseasel econobox with all the buttons and none of the soul that now does all the heavy lifting.

Ford Capri Laser: noisy, slow, thirsty, bouncy, no buttons but it always sounds like it’s REALLY trying and I can’t help but chuckle when it parps and boings along. And people of a certain age stare at it with a wistful look in their eyes that clearly says…I had one of them. And I sold it because of the kids

I've never found high-performance fuels to give any advantage.

As for your other comments, I wonder if the remap has anything to do any of this.
Trust me, the 1500-2000rpm range is as new to me as breaking news on BBC news from last week.

I found VPower more smoother especially in the lower rpms. Just feels better to be honest.

Remap?? Hmm..I never thought about that.
My understanding is more octanes->smoother ride->so engine struggles less which should lower the consumption ???

Not really as the engine management adapts to whatever octane it gets, within reason (RTFM).

In theory I think you can get better top-end performance with higher octane in these sorts of engines, but I'll await contradiction on that.

Though the remap may affect all of that, it should only cause oddities for lower-octane fuel if at all.

e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

For reference mine did recently an excellent 23.9 locally and the DIS said 27 on the Germany trip which I've never seen before!

There's a much earlier thread somewhere, where I posted some mpg data from my previous S8 which wasn't mapped. I had enough data collected over many tank fulls) to demonstrate that the car did do more mpg on premium fuel, but not quite enough to pay for the additional cost.

But, considering the other benefits of premium fuel as well (much kinder on your very expensive engine, for example), I always us premium fuel now.

Planned mods: auto-dimming rear view mirror, dash cam (as steamship's), fit the ski hatch, refit philips drl's (or maybe not - nope, definitely not - horrible botch!).

So how do you know the butler doesn't use regular unleaded and pocket the extra cash?

I know its not as accurate as the Laird's stunning spreadsheet but my DIS showed over 24 on a trip to and from Liverpool Airport, and that was with SWMBO four changes of clothes per day for a two week holiday on board as well

Silly John (47p2) - it's the chauffeur that fills the car up, not the butler!

There is a well defined etiquette around these things: the chauffeur thrashes the car and fills it up with Asda's finest (telling me it was BP Ultimate), the butler does what butlers do (and the maids) and the gardener does the garden (and the wife).

Standards are important, you know.

The DIS is always optimistic. It's there to show SWMBO how frugal the car is and what a sensible choice you made.
