Default Jumps into reverse sometime. Please help

I have a 2002 final edition S8 with the
Gear change on steering wheel.

I sent car in for a new tray/filter and new oil.

Came back fine then a few days later the box would jump
Slightly when I go to put it in reverse and put all the transmission lights on

Can any body shed any light on this.

It is intermittent too. Doesn't always do it.

Does the box store fault codes?

Questions welcome to get to bottom of this.

Thanks.

Could just be bad luck and your F125 switch has borked - it will store a fault code for that or any other mechanical fault with the box where it is capable of recognising one of the symptoms. Get the codes read and that will give a very strong pointer to the cause.

When all the lights come on on the DIS it's in limp mode so jams in 3rd or reverse only - if it's in limp mode and you're noticing a thump it could just be because of that.

If it's thumping badly without throwing it into limp mode I'd start by asking whoever did the fluid change to check the level again as a starting point.

Horror scenario is if they've used the wrong oil or something has been dislodged that's now causing problems, but I'd start with the simple/cheap-ish stuff first and not panic just yet

Thanks for your advice.

Genuine Audi oil from dealer was used (damn expensive)
And genuine filter tray.

Exact amount of oil was used and bleeding done.

Is this switch you mention and easy swap or is it internal?

Will get the box read next week and see what codes it brings up.

Thanks again.

The switch is on the side of the box, but requires a downpipe removing and the box mount dropping to access it.....

Another thing I remember reading in other posts is that if the wrong oil pick up pipe is used or located incorrectly it terminates too close to the bottom of the pan and restricts the oil flow thus giving gearbox issues. I would investigate the F125 switch as well but it seems odd that this issue has suddenly occurred at exactly the same time the gearbox was serviced. If you search the threads on here I'm sure there's something somewhere about the gearbox oil pick up issue.

Mine failed within a week of having the gearbox oil serviced

Crazy thing is its only reverse.

Box is so smooth through all forward gears.

Will investigate the switch next week.

Will Vagcom read the box?

Cheers

Yes

Is it the moving from D to R or back that causes it to go into limp mode?

I start car.

I go into drive and all is well and car drives as you would expect.

Then I come to a stop and go to select R. Then it pauses one second. The
Jumps to R and lights come one.

As soon as I turn ignition off and back on lights go out and drives as normal once again.
