Thats a mighty fine question...... 2 Engines in Audis historic line up have impressed me (ignoring the V8's from the D2/D3 which 'just worked' every time)

* The V10 Biturbo in the C6 RS6. They just dont break. Most are running remaps north of 700 bhp and the engine doesn't even use oil. It just ooozes torque all day long and doesn't bat an eyelid. Getting on 10 years old now, so finding a good one is getting trickier.

* The last V6 petrol engine they put in the S4/S5 before they lost their senses and went Tdi. It was a peach of an engine that. Revved, popped, snarled - Decent amount of power and the economy wasn't to be sniffed at. Not sure what other cars they put that in, but if that was in anything bigger, it might be worth a look at. They got 450+ bhp out of it in the RS4/RS5....

I think all modern cars are doomed. It a case of fiddling hard enough to get it through the emissions and onto the road, and worry about what breaks later. I don't think I'd have a 'modern' (last 4/5 years) Audi without the Audi warranty to be fair. Its so cheap, its daft not to. I just renewed our Q7 for £500, and it had near 10K's worth of work last year FOC. You can slap an Audi warranty on any Audi, as long as its got full service history, and less than 100K miles. It doesn't need to be currently under warranty, or bought from a dealer, but it costs more if there has been a break in cover. Possibly not for you though if you intend to modify, but a C7 S6/RS6 under warranty would be a bit of fun, with peace of mind ?

IMHO this is the nicest C6 RS6 Avant on AT at the moment

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...01907029617955

It's been for sale for ages and started out at circa £35k IIRC. Needs to drop a good bit further, but it's a very rare facelift Plus (which come with HDD nav as standard) and ACC (most of the Plus's came with no additional options at all, and some odd colour combos forced on dealers as demos)

I checked with my mate who works for QST (MTM agent in UK) and he said it's a good 'un.

I agree with Ian that the C7 S6 is looking like a very sweet spot for a fast estate at the moment, if you want the newer toys and fuel economy. Unfortunately sold in tiny numbers, but they were for sale for quite a while so there are some around to choose from. I probably see one or two a month pop up on an automated AT search.

That is nice.

A rare, specced up, plus.....

The plus came with exclusive paint and exclusive leather, leather dashboard, plaque on the cup holder, carbon engine bay with 174 max speed increase and not much more from what I remember.

That also has ACC, keyless, load area kit, lockable boot compartment, Facelift 3G MMi, rear blinds, rear side airbags, side assist, solar roof, TV, twin pane, soft close, high beam assist, phone handset, reversing camera, heated rear seats, auto boot and if its a genuine MTM, then don't they get remapped, but don't lose their Audi warranties somehow....

Bar ceramics, and a bit more exclusive moo trim, that would be 'fully loaded'...

That is quite an example....... Almost wished i'd not seen that.....

Haha!!

I think in Germany MTM are about as close to factory approved as you're likely to get, but not in the UK. Their kits are ridiculously expensive compared to MRC, but generally quite conservative in terms of strain on the engine. I can't recall the details (but I have just checked and I originally spotted this very car for sale last September!) but my mate couldn't recall any horrors with it, and clearly it's had the expensive age related work done. Think the map only went on it in 2018, but memory isn't that great....

Given the price of replacement ceramics, it's probably a bonus that it doesn't have them (but agree with them it pretty much ticks every box going)

I think i've seen 2 other Plus's with ACC....

Worth mentioning that the C6 Plus didn't get any additional power as standard over the regular model - just the raised limiter top speed. It wasn't a big seller, largely because dealers were still registering 2008 model year Avants in 2010! Saloons were an entirely different game

Interesting the MTM torque values are quite low... sub 900nm. I don't think I've seen an MRC Stage 2 sub 1000. Mine were both 4 figures for sure.....

Interesting fact about the RS6 pluses - The last three digits of the VIN, match the plaque on the car. So this car would have a VIN ending 238....
