What an amazingly accurate description of MJ’s pride in her work!
Plus I cannot stop laughing!

I love the terminology. Perpetrator = Moron!

Wee... without knowing said perpetrator had installed the fridge she discovered new flaws there!
The S8 isn't shy anymore. She's in the progress of showing all and any shortcomings to MJ now, and if it seems there's none left a new one shows. MJ isn't easily scared away though! :-)

Been mostly fiddling and fettling this week. Now that most of the big jobs are out of the way it was time to do something which has been bugging me for a while.
Because of the LPG tank, the boot carpet doesn't fit any more. This is a, most uncomfortable when working in the boot, and b, a most excellent tool-trap when things fall under the tank! I should imagine its also quite vexing if you want to use the boot too! Nicht gut. Cut a piece of 10mm plywood to fit the space. Cut it in to two pieces. This is where the new floor will 'hinge'. The leading edge of this is tapered to lead the new carpet on to the original floor. Painted the visible surfaces on the top Sprayed the underside with sound-deadening paint Cut the new carpet using a spare as a template Made a support brace at the front end of the spare wheel well. This will support the front end of the lifting piece of the new floor. The front piece of the new board sits on top of the support and is held in place using the studs for the original floor New board in place. It all fits nicely New carpet stuck to the board with contact adhesive Stuck some anti-rattle felt on the LPG tank support braces so it doesn't squeak All stuck together In place and held down with the tie-down loops, and with D2 fuel-line screws going through the board on to the original studs. Made a little handle to lift the floor up. The original plastic handle won't fit because of the tank, but since there's no spare wheel and the tyres are run-flats, I can't see much need to go under here! Finished Its black rather than dark grey since I've never been able to find aftermarket carpet that matches the D2 boot, but it beats no floor at all! |

This is what I did with my sub install:
The amp board is attached to the back of the sub enclosure with a couple of large pieces of extruded aluminium joining the tie-down hooks to their original mounting points in the floor so I can still use them I used a genuine D2 non-ski-hatch carpet so the colour matched. Two Infinity Kappa 12s firing through the ski hatch They use the entire boot as a 500 litre ported enclosure with the ports in the original speaker mountings in the rear shelf. That is EXACTLY what I was planning to do....even down to sacrificing the rear shelf speakers
The only part I hadn’t figured out was the ski hatch....this 8 doesn’t have one but my last one did

That's one of the neatest LPG installs I've ever seen!
Much better than the one my old Commodore had. All the more nearer now thanks to Michaela! What's the usable litres in the donut tank? The tank in my Commodore used to sit across the suspension hump at the front end of the boot and was a standard cylindrical tank. It had 65 usable litres in a 80 litre cylinder (80% max due to requirements for thermal expansion allowance in the tank). I was half expecting to see something similar in Vera's S8, which would have made fuel pump access interesting!

All features as the '01, with the 'S' mode auto shifter. Dodgey rear tint (need to find a way to get rid of that). It says 83 litres, but I think that may be total volume. Going on 80% thats 66 litres usable.
Probably 250 miles / 400km range? |
