Default Facelift lights

Has anyone managed to separate the facelift lights housing from the lens.

I have just bought and fitted facelift lights and prior to flitting I took the screws out of the units but could not separate the housing from the lens so could not get access to the inside to see the pcb.

Some people have reported that the face lift lights are prone to water ingress too, so I wanted to see them apart to see if they could be sealed better and also to see what might be possible in regards to modding them to behave like the new A8 lights.

Yeah, it looks like the lens has been melted to the housing, effectively making it a unit that shouldn't be opened.

Was hoping someone may have had a go at a broken unit.

Yes, my best mate.
What he did is he cut of first the 10-15mm of the lens edge and the cut the adhesive, very hard work.
When you cut the lip of you will have an easy access to the adhesive
it will look like that

========== (lens)
********** (adhesive)
========== (black housing)

BUT, it depends what you want to do there is an amazing way to get access to the interior if you want to install original DRL LEDs from same age A6. Yes, the headlights are almost identical, fixing points are different, indicator lens has a different shape, but rest is almost identical, so you can easily fit the original DRL LED strips form A6 (lets say 08 plate) to 08 plate A8.

Anyway, what you can do is cut the bottom of, an triangle, square or even almost the whole bottom part just before the edges.
Then you've got a beautiful access to the whole interior of the headlight.

Much easier to cut as you just cutting the black housing. Cutting of the adhesive is literally a few days job, a ****** nightmare.

I should have been clearer, I was referring to the face-lift rear lights as the bit between the reverse light and the indicator does nothing and it annoys me it should be a continuation of the indicator.
