Default I Bought a Metal Lathe

Every now and then when I'm trying to fix or build something I often wish I had a this tool.

One occasion I really wish I had a lathe to make a bolt that I needed plus I thought it would be an interesting thing to have.

Random Facebook status and my mate got in contact saying he has a old one that him and his Dad no longer uses.

Several messages later and I collect it this saturday.

It is an old unit. None of this gearbox to change the speed.
Just 3 different size V belt pulleys for the chuck speed and different size cogs for the auto feed speed.

Its old, solid but for something to learn on and not sure what I'm going to do with it in the future it will do.

Got some extra bits with it as well.

There was a slight issue with the lathe when I first got it.

The auto feed switch for the tool bench was not engaging.

I stripped the unit down and noticed this dowel was snapped off with in this brass unit.

I drilled it out, rebuild the lathe, found a old bolt, machined it down to the correct diameter, cut it down to 10mm in length. Did a 5mm thread on one half, put a thread in to the brass section that I drilled out and refitted it all back together and it now fully works.

Not bad for my first go on a lathe.

I do need to order some new tools for it and a centre stay.

Hey Scott,
Just spotted this. My son blagged something like this a couple of years back. Just to sit on a bench, no legs. It was a right mess. He cleaned it all up, replaced the motor and then found that all the bearings were shot.
Never mind we had some fun with it.

I'm having fun with this one.
Built a couple of things with it and fix some bits.
So far so good.

I need to replace the motor, belts and possibly bearings but so far so good.

Mickey mouse, you'd not get a ships prop shaft in that. Ha ha

you also need to tidy up around your Skoda lathe, slips trips and falls
