Wanted one from the day they were released. This one is amongst the highest spec and most pampered. Its been properly looked after. Oil changed every 5k and gearbox oil changed every 40k. It was dyno'd at 507 BHP and has natural leather, solar, milltek. The whole car had to be repainted by Audi due to an imperfection in the paintwork and then vinyl was applied to arches etc to avoid stonechips. The owner even replaced the Xenons with new ones as the old ones were stonechipped. Genuine RS 6 plus wheels not just painted this colour, lots of new parts such as oil cooler,alternator etc fitted recently. I'm in Love.. Anyone driven an RS 6, whats the power delivery like? I'm finding it harder and harder to resist now.

Anyhow, I miss my RS6. Yes, it wasn't anything like as comfortable as the D2, and it had nothing in way of toys compared the D2, but its the only audi I ever owner that actually made my internal organs feel under pressure. Seriously.

The W12 D3 has 450 ponies. So does the RS6, but they're galaxies apart. The W12 will dial up the power, but is so linear, you'll never notice. You just get there quicker, and even with the window open, theres not a hair out of place.

The RS6, now thats like a D2 S8 in terms of take off, right upto about 1750 revs - then it roars loudly, snaps your neck off, and rearranges your lunch as both the turbos spin up and start to dump fuel at a rate previously seen only when the US leaks it in the sea.

Dont ever think you can drive it gently and get a sensible mpg. Forget it, its just not possible. Its not just a discipline thing, as all it wants it nailing hard with that gorgous V8 rumble, but the turbos are always purring, just supping the juice via the twin fuel pumps.

Mine was pretty special in terms of spec, and the clifford remote intellistart made it even cooler.

Owning an RS6 is one of those 'must do before I die things' although these days, its probably worth doing whilst fuel is this side of £2 / litre

Exactly, a lot of people have started panicking and stopped buying high performance cars as fuel is going up. Well it isn't going down is it? The fact its going higher and higher is even more reason to buy one. It is sitting on Bilstein PSS9 which are the most expensive and most sort after setup on the RS 6. Warranty Direct have quoted £720 a year with EVERYTHING covered. They have paid out a fair amount on other RS 6 models. Insurance is £700 more then the BMW and nearly half what an A8 4.0 TDI would be!
It will be a second car on a 5k mile a year policy though and locked away out of sight most of the year, going to think this one over. I don't want to rush into it but I can't hold out much longer and this is one of the best examples around. The owner took the aluminium mirrors off, not sure why... Think he prefers the look. That Clifford stop start sounds intresting, as its recommended to let a turbo car cool down for about 40 secs after a hard drive, this way I could shut it off from inside the house rather then wait in the car. That sounds awesome Ian, imagine what a remapped one must be like then!

I avoided remapping as 450 was quite enough for me really....

The remapping starts to stress things, particularly the gearbox which tends to shred itself if power goes above 500bhp without a TCU remap too...

I'd rather have 450 bhp reliably than a little bit more, which id struggle to notice, than 500 bhp with the risk of longer term damage...

Whats the full spec / price on that RS6 then ? I'm not seeing the same excitment about it as you, I must be missing something.....

The clifford was more of a remote start, than a 'turbo timer' -When you drive high performance turbos, you get used to driving gentle for a minute of so before you arrive at your destination, no need to leave it running.

The clifford was cool for just pressing a button on the remote and having it start up on the driveway, you could feel the V8 burble through the wood floor in the lounge when you did it, even though you couldnt always hear it. I'll never, ever forget that bizarre sensation

Bare in mind remote engine start is illegal IF used on the public road (OK on your driveway, if you have one) but most insurance companies don't like it/won't cover cars wuth it, as it encourages scrotes to have a go thinking they can drive away when they can't. Same goes for turbo timers.

I rather like that RS6 on the subtle front, but think I'd save a few quid and buy a saloon if it's only a toy. There was a gorgeous saloon in the same colour for sale recently but think it went eventually.....

Never really considered the legalities of it - the car came with it fitted.

It was part of a Clifford Cat 1 security system, so even with the remote start, it was pretty dam secure.

You still had to put the keys into the ignition to actually drive off in it, and touching the brake/accellerator etc would instantly kill the engine without the keys inserted.

I wouldnt pay for it fitting myself, but it was a nifty toy - It put the sidelights on too, for added cool

Yeah my mate had it on his Subaru Legacy GT-B, but it's illegal under the Road Traffic Act (leaving your car engine running while 'unattended')

I'd actually like it on one of my cars (Citroen BX 16V) as can let the suspension get up to height while walking up to the car, but most systems come from the USA and are auto only (so can't tell if it's in neutral or not) so aren't suitable for manuals. I checked with contacts at Thatcham and they basically said it invalidates the Thatcham security rating of the alarm in the eyes of insurance companies.

MRC are very clever and have done the TCU on this as well. They limit the torque and do some clever stuff including revised shift points for better drivability so it doesn't break the gearbox, if it does break the gearbox. Brand spanking new one courtesy of the warranty company. Win win.
