Default Rear brake caliper repair kit?

Is there such a thing for a 2001 S8?

When the rear pads were replaced last time I noticed a small tear in the rubber boot that protects the piston and I really should get around to doing the job properly.

Has anyone else been down this road and is there a repair kit which would include the rubber boot and if so what other bits & pieces might likely be included?

Thanks & kind regards,

Should be one available, though maybe just from Audi. I've done a couple before on other VAG cars and they're reasonably easy, the only fiddly bit is getting the piston back in past the new o-ring without damaging it.

You should get some lube, the o-ring and the piston boot at least in there.

The Audi number for the seal kit for the rear callipers are:

4D0698671 for the quattros
8D0698671 for the V6s and no Quattro A8s (Check the part number of the Calliper and make sure it corresponds to the Engine Code)

To do an emergency refurb you have to be able to rewind the brake piston. So you either have to have a rewind tool like this

or be happy to do this:

These photos come from Audi Pages a top site for info and procedures on our cars and set up by Paul Waterloo. Link to page is here.

To do an emergency refurb to cure a sticking calliper you need to be able to push the piston out quite a way. If you push it out to far though it will pop out which is messy and a PITA to put back in. But easier to carry out this procedure!

Tools required:
Rewind Tool
Dremmel with brass wire wheel (soft)
New seals

Once the calliper is off the carrier and clear of the disk, take of the dust seal and pump the brake pedal slowly to push out the piston until any corrosion on the piston is clear of the housing.

Using the dremmel in a circular motion (under no circumstances backwards and forwards) clear of any corrosion. I then followed up with a mini flap wheel in the same circular motion. Once the corrosion is clear all you will have is some pitting.

Wind back the piston and pump the brake pedal to ensure it runs in and out smoothly a couple of times.

Fit new dust seals after a thorough cleaning and refit.
