Default HVAC error doh!!

Whilst I was outside messing with the suspension for another thread, I thought I would run the HVAC basic settings to see if I could fix a clicking flap motor.

What a stupid mistake that was, heater is still working as it should (I Hope, well the fan runs and heat comes out of the important vents) but I now have a "No or incorrect basic settings/adaption" error because the basic settings failed as I guess the flap motor thats been click is completely broken and not just out of calibration. Fault code does not clear either, so I guess that will need a replacement flap motor somewhere. Hope its easily accessible, I'll investigate further when the weather improves.

I'm so sorry mate, but/and you still wouldn't change the car after so many recent fixes, relationship between A8's and their drivers is almost like a marriage because we spent so much time around them, like your second Mrs, but the main difference is that Mrs does not moan like the other one on two legs

Need any help with that in any way??

I'll scan the HVAC for errors again over the weekend, and make a proper note of the error. That should reveal which motor is dead.

I got the D3 for a pretty good price, because I knew at the time it had some issues. Trouble is some were masked by a dying battery which was generating a load of fault codes across all modules. I'm 95% clear of faults, just a few lurking buried which don't appear to affect the basic functions of the car.

I just hope its not a flap for directing heat, all good in the winter of course. The last thing I want is heat coming out of a vent in the summer. Hopefully its just an air direction one, I'll scan the car later.

Got it, looks like the air recirculation flap motor, however fault is intermittent. If I press the recirc button I can hear the flap moving and the airflow through the vents changes.

00735 - Potentiometer in Positioning Motor for Air recirculation Flap (G143)
005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100101
Fault Priority: 3
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 81
Mileage: 208627 km
Time Indication: 0

Aint you the lucky one, access from plenum area, Might be an easy fix then, I can pull pages out of Bentley manual and postas PDF if you need them?

Mine is a bit worrying as its a mechanical failure of the defrost flap and that entails removing the whole dashboard unless someone knows better???

Would be good to know where that motor lives, I cleared the fault and tried the basic settings again which failed. The same fault was then present after the failed run.
