If it is a stuck piston in the ABS unit then maybe some percussive maintenance might free it up? Maybe use the wheel brace to get in between the pipework and give it a whack with something heavy. That might free it up, although it may well get stuck on the next press of the pedal.

Thats all I can think of other than getting it recovered unfortunately.

Where are you at the mo?

I think its sticking generally. Pedal will be solid, and then at one point it will loosen up and all good, next time I brake it's all solid again.

Currently in Stevenage, mechanic I trust is on London

Does the letter at the end of pump part number matter?

Hard to say. I just put a 2002 S8 ESP control unit in a 2000 3.7 and it worked fine which would suggest little to no hardware differences.

I have 8E0614111AT for all FL with ESP which is compatible with suffixes AS and T.

Ok great, there are plenty of T models. Taking her to the garage and he'll strip it down and see what's going on want to order spare second hand unit just in case it needs replacing.

What I have discovered with D3's and the same issues is that the ABS block and the ECU affixed to it should either be changed for another complete unit which comes as a pair, or the replacement half needs to be exactly the same code as the part you are taking off. It became apparant that you could not mix the blocks and ECUs with any other halfs that you have available. I know this from bitter experience and as soon as we followed this rule, never had another issue. I know it means bleeding the brakes fully if you change the block but dont be tempeted to take the control ecu off the top and just swap it for any other one unless you know that they are a direct match on part numbers and software numbers!
