Think March 01 + cars are going to have to pay the higher rate now. When was yours registered?

It is now, but I think Ian mentioned it may be on the way up for 2001+ cars, I sure hope not though, would take the **** paying £400+ a year tax when driving on such poor surfaced cratered roads.

Think its OK for now, I think sometimes the confusion arises for cars registered after Mar 2001, if its a 4.2 then the emissions are in the highest band M (£435), but for some reason they decided that cars registered before 23 March 2006 are lumped in the lower band K which is the £245 band.

I think band M was on a temp holiday in the K band or something for a year or so, which I think comes to an end this April ?? If anyone can find an official link, it would be great...

I just renewed my D3 for 245 quid, but I'm pretty sure renewals from next month will be the full £400+ monty ?

If so, its worth chopping your tax disc in, and renewing it for 12 months this month....

From past experience you have to read the budget statement line by line to see what's in there, and wouldn't assume that something mentioned in a previous one is a dead cert to go ahead.

The reason for the 2006 change was it was deemed unfair to apply a retrospective tax on those who were not aware when buying a car that the VED would double. That highest band therefore applies to vehicles registered after its introduction. If they were to undo that then it certainly wouldn't be popular as some really quite mundane cars fall into it (Galaxy 2.0 auto etc) plus I'm not sure the extra revenue would be worth the grief they'd get for it.

Info is all here:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...icle/DG_172916

Before everyone panics take special note of the asterisk next to Band K

"*Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006."

So there should be NO CHANGE for us!!

Adrian

Fingers crossed!

If they where actually doing it, I would have thought it would be mentioned on the road tax pricing website.
