Default Tyres

More questions I'm afraid
Sorry for posting this here but I wondered what tyres you folks find work well on the Quattro. Mine currently has dunlops fitted 255/40/19. They are a different version front to back (although Dunlop) and are all but one heading near the limit.
As part of getting the alloys redone I am going to get new rubber fitted.
I have in the past had good experiences with Dunlops Contis and more recently Falken 452's (slightly less expensive) which I have on an XJ, and they seem to be surviving ok and give a quiet ride and good grip.

Also can a decent tyre bay set up the alignment etc on Audi ok. In the past my local tyre bloke has done a very good job on my motors for a resonable price, he has a good quality 4 wheel digital alignment set up. I used this for my E55 and my Westfield and they both benefitted from being set up correctly. I assume Audi Stealers are a tad expensive for this 4 wheel alignment?
Cheers
Glyn

4 wheel alignment at Audi is a wallet emptying experience! Lots of performance tuning places have the kit needed, but it does need decent kit to do it properly.

Mine's on Michelin PS2 (factory fit in 20") and have PS3 on my A6. Have also had decent experience with Conti Sport Contacts. The Falkens do seem to get a good press for the price, but no personal experience on my cars.

mine has Nexen N6000 (I think) its what the previous owner put on them before I bought it, cant comment on wear yet, but under many different conditions, snow, ice, standing water, dry etc etc, and under some spirited driving I have had no frights yet. Had Dunlops on my Octy vRS and they were like driving on glass in the wet. Factory fit Michelin's on the vRS were much better. As Adrian says Falkens get great reviews all over the place and at the price they seem like a good bet, I will certainly consider them when replacement time comes, think they are around the £130 each form MyTyres

cheers

If you have ACC be careful using anyone but audi.

this was a costly experience for me when i used someone to adjust my tracking (they also do my drift car) and it knocked out the ACC - down to audi for tracking and 775 later it was fixed

i use 452's on my A8 255-35-20 they often pop up for £100 on mytyres. so i grab them when they do.

easily the best tyre in that size for £100 anything half decent will cost you £160 minimum,

i prefer the grip of the 452's over the pilot sport 2's dont last as long but at nearly a 1/3 of the price who cares.

Toyo T1'rs are quite cheap in that size, very grippy but dont expect them to last ages. ive got these on the front of the drifter.

Can't comment on the tyres, but my advice is to go to a good Audi independent to do your wheel alignment.

When I purchased my car last year, the first thing I did was have this carried out with QST (all tyres were new) and a service. The alignment made such a difference to the way the car behaved on the road.

Last month, I had an incident with a pothole - cue going back to QST for another 4-wheel alignment!

Tyres on these aren't cheap, and with the performance these cars are capable of, I can't stress enough how important it is to get all 4 wheels set up correctly

ACC is adaptive cruise control.. was never an option in D2s, so you won't have it. But it needs to line up with the wheels to work properly.

I've just had a set of Nankang AS-1s which were pretty decent, stuck some Barum Bravuris 2 on the front on the recommendation of a mate, so we'll see how they go.

I've just replaced my falken 452's with falken 452's

They are grippy (if thats a word!) in all conditions, quiet on the motorway and where cheap enough.

I got them from camskill delivered in under 20 hours!!

if i had a D2 i wouldnt be going to an audi specialist in particular with regards to wheel alignment.

any decent wheel alignment place will know how to set up the car correctly.

not sure whats adjustable on the D2's but anywhere with a hunter laser alignment machine should be able to do a spot on job.

if you know your style of driving, adjust the settings to suit.

ie adding more camber on the front if you like going round bends fast.

normal camber is probably about 1 degree.
