Default Misfires and Engine stuff

Hi There,

Had a bit of an interesting time with my engine, initially I had some rough running and then really rough and got to work and popped the bonnet to find a spark plug out and a coil pack destroyed. I had a spare set of spark plugs (10-15K on them) and popped one in and the threads were fine. New coil pack and the engine ran fine. Cleared the codes and went home fine. Due to the state of the plugs, I swapped them all out to the spare set.

Ran up to nottingham last night, which was fine and smooth.

Today driving back there was a light shake to the engine, acceloration under load (up hills etc) was noticably odd. Check engine light was on so on getting home I checked the codes.

16814 - Catalyst System Efficency below threshold (bank2)
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire
16690 - Cylinder 6 Missfire detected
16692 - Cylinder 8 Missfire detected
16666 - Cylinder 2 Missfire detected

Clearing off and going to the shops and back and the Random and cylinder 6 were back, in less than a mile.

Any ideas ???

Lee

Default Random misfire

Check coil pack and spark plug from cyl 6....random misfire could be many things....but I would have a guess at crank sensor?....

Default Cyl 6

It isn't a daft question....if you are looking at the engine from the front of the car....cylinder 6 is 2nd in on the right.....hope I got that right....maybe someone can confirm it for me.

Hi there,

Curious. 2nd in on the right from the front of the car would be the one that blew the plug. Brand new oem coil pack!

It's interesting a plug can blow out but leave the thread OK.

Seems it was never tightened properly and managed to unscrew itself.

The 15k plugs etc - why did you have/keep them?
