What's A Used 2001 S8 Tip Tranny Worth?

At some point, my 5-speed tip will be coming out of my 2001 S8, in favour of an 01E 6-speed manual.

I was just wondering what the tip is worth? Right now, the car drives fine, no noises, thumps or delays in shifting. My car has full service history, though one can never tell if the tip tranny fluid has been changed by Audi. Indeed some users have reported their tips failed just after a fluid change, so some prefer to leave well alone, and just make sure the fluid level's correct.

My car has just crept over the 100,000 mile mark, everything feels tight and smooth.

What is it worth?

Check e-bay for prices. But I do think there is any demand for them considering they do fail very often unless you offer warranty on it. I would not buy second hand. If it fails it's either rebuild, manual conversion or say good bye to car.

I thought that would be the case.

I previously owned a '96 A8 4,2 Quattro Sport, with the first of the 5-speed tips. Drove well, I replaced it with a '98 S8. Now this S8 had just had a brand new Audi transmission, torque converter and TCU fitted. It had been installed just 3 months before I bought the car. At the time, I wasn't aware the tips in D2'a was a problem. I was also asked if I wanted to take the old tranny with me - it was meant to go back to Audi, but never did.

I had all the receipts from AFN Audi, the tranny had a 2 year / 24,000 mile warranty. Had I known, I would have parted out, rather than sell her complete!
