Hi There,

Spoke with the garage across the road from me and they made me one in copper which i molded to fit. I'm not sure about copper versus steel though ???

Bleeding time now then i get to start on the other side front. It should in theory be an easy job !!!

Hi There,

Well i had complications. The inside bleed nipple had corrosion on the thread and then would not seal. Careful tightening didn't work and sheared the thread. I got it bushed, but it still would not seal.

Spoke to A8 Parts and a 'new' caliper was procured. I spoke nicely and they shipped it with the brake pipe. They had cut the rubber hose and supplied it with the bracket complete. Knowing the pipes corrode under the plastic sheath and have a habbit of snapping. I removed it from the rubber hose with care by twisting the rubber hose end off with the nipple secure. Corrosion still didn't allow movement. So some careful cleaning and a little help from a blow torch (plastic melted away) and it freed up.

Fitted now and bled. One side. 4.5 days. Otherside 0.5 days.

I managed to take the car out for a spin and followed EBC's recomendations of 40->0 carefuly for 5 times with a minute between. Plus some small brake use driving arround before some heavier braking and testing under controled conditions (i like to know how things perform before relying on them, ie if it pulls).

Drove her up to leeds and back this weekend and while gentle motorway driving, the car seems a lot happier.

Need to do the rears, but i'll leave it a few days....first.

Perseverance pays. Glad it's all sorted.

It pays to get it right with brakes though but full marks for (extended) perseverance!

Just did my discs and pads front and rear but im going to change the brake fluid when I major service the car shortly - you hear all sorts of stories about needing to change your fliud every 2 years max and I'm sure not many do.

Anyone know how much I will need for the whole system (3.7 QS 99 A8)
and is this an Audi only fluid job or what else is recommended otherwise?

Cheers
Neil

Default Brake ID

Just have a question about how many miles we can get out of our brake pads and rotors? I have about 18k miles on the mag and I get a pulse in the brake pedal and a shake in the steering wheel under braking arount 40mph down to 20 mph. I have the slotted rotors and I am a spirited driver. I plan to replace the rotors and pads very soon.

Joan,

Your probably not getting any answers because of your previous posts here and here.
