Default 00526 - Brake Light Switch (F)

Hi There,

On look at VCDS i get

1 Fault Found:
00526 - Brake Light Switch (F)
011 - Open Circuit - Intermittent

Which is often a vcds thing with autos

However my engine DTC's include

18061 - Please check DTC Memory of ABS Controller
P1653 - 008 - - Intermittent
18061 - Please check DTC Memory of ABS Controller
P1653 - 008 - - Intermittent

Which is leading me to thinking it's a real thing. I've been watching at night when driving and I certainly seem to have a brake light working, but....
(Actually when in cruise and accelorating past then taking my foot off i see what seems to be auto braking?!?!)

So....Where's the little bugger and how do i check / replace it ???

Ta,
Lee

Page 34 of THIS DOCUMENT should see you sorted
It's just above the brake pedal, not too bad to change, just make sure you don't leave any dangling cables that may get in the way of the correct operation of the brake pedal or get caught in any feet

Interesting. Doesn't look too bad....Trim removal and lying upside down at a guess

I wonder what is up with a *switch*

Ta for that!

Hi There,

Had a play this afternoon. Popped the dash side panel off with a trim tool. Popped the small trim panel off as well. Slid the business card tray front off and replaced the tray. The popped the long thin trim strip off. Left the switches connected as it can be slid out the way. 4 x T25 screws out and the lower dash comes off quite easily. Disconnected the connectors for the light switch, key and footwell light and it came out very easily!

Spent a good while looking at lots of cables and not finding the switch, thinking I had something different and taking a photo of the part number to find that I was looking at the Accelorator pedal!!!

Another delve into things and bingo, found out. Boy is it out of the way and further up than imagined. It's more of an arm stretch up that see kinda thing.

Got it out. It's a 3B0 945 511 made on the 24th of Jan 2005.

Interesting 3 stage twist lock kind of design. Wonder why it is quite so complex. Have a new one on order and will fit this one back and see if tweaking it will make any difference, though that page says it's a fit once device!
