I have switched to some winter wheels and tyres. 17" wheels with 225/55 Vredestein Sportrac 2tyres. makes a huge difference in deep snow and the wet.

My first engine swap after cambelt failure. 1996 4.2 A8SQ - Ming Blue. 178k on a cambelt! Trader's 8. Delivered to A8Parts at Lifex. 2003 2.8 A8SQ - powder blueish. Fill in for a while. Sold on. 1998 1.8T A4 Avant FWD. Ming Blue (there's a theme here), PEX for the 97 S8. And a list of non VAG going back 40 years before I saw the light.

Just bought some 18" wheels from A8 Parts and waiting for them to be returned from a refurb to use as winter wheels. I've got 20" wheels woth P Zeros on - not the grippiest tyres I don't think. Hoping the 18" will be better - but not sure what tyres to get. Any recommendations?

I have Pirelli P Zero Neros on my 8 and they do a great job of getting through the snow. They are an all season tyre though rather than a true winter tyre. I would recommend Nokia GRs though - I have used them on the XC90 and they are great.

Spent over an hour last night digging my S8 out of my own drive. And then 20 minutes digging out the wife's mini. The '8 didn't even think about getting up the slope and the back end kept drifting all over the place. Shovels and old towels eventually inched it to the top (with the ESP off). Now reduced to leaving it on the flat section and reversing out in the morning!
