Group tyre test in auto express this week - includes winter tyres as well:

Seems that the Goodyear does well.

have to say some years back i put a set of vredestein protrac 2's on the back end of my capri (local tyre guy recommended them after i told him roundabouts sidewards were becoming tiresome, fun when i want it, not when i didn't!) and they were by far and away the best boots i've shelled out on, the wet grip was incredible, you could see the dry line behind me as i drove and they lasted over 2 years. What they'd be like on an 8 i couldn't say but it calmed my tail happy capri!

LOL. I like the "I would have had an igloo built" part
We poor suckers have to build our own igloos

Today we got to have (not much) fun in the snow here in Plymouth.
Her majesty wanted to drive to work after an inch of snow fell last night. It was on top of an existing inch of snow that was frozen.

She backed out the Scirocco gingerly and made it a 100 meters up the slight incline from the house before sliding sideways into someone's drive. No damage. Took me 30 minutes to back it up our inclined drive and into the garage. Then in the 8 and wafted her to work almost an hour late.

Quattro + Winter tyres = no problem.

Making it look so easy has helped our relationship no end. Explaining the virtues of winter tyres over her ULP 19s made it even better!!!

Went up to Birmingham NEC yesterday afternoon (3 hrs from Hertfordshire...had to make ample use of thre A5 up to MK), and back home this morning. Car was superb - car park at NEC was -18deg this morning...

And why did I go?....went to BBC Sport Personality of the Year...with VIP free bar/food access to the after show party 'til early hours of this morning. Rather odd experience sharing the dance floor with Zara Phillips and James Corden at 1am this morning!! Fantastic night though...
