Default ABS sensors. 1 or more?

Folks - front right ABS sensor is showing as faulty. Is it OK to replace just one, or do you recommend a pair or all 4? Discuss.

One is fine. They're independent. Though inspect it when it comes out. Depending on which hub/sensor combo you have, it could just be the sensor but it could also be a sign of the bearing starting to go.

you can sometimes be lucky and extend their life by just removing and cleaning

Cheers folks. This sounds like it require an amount of mechanical skill (which I don't have), but I needed to know for when I take it to my local garage so I don't get screwed over!

Unless it's very easy. I made read up on the process.

Thanks!

Be warned that the part is different if the car left the factory on 20s (different suffix on the part number) and it's a pretty wallet-wilting £170+vat

Does it come on reliably under particular circumstances? If it's a bit random a clean up of the connector behind the arch liner may be all that's required. My FNS needed that recently and has been fine since (sensor was replaced 4 years ago)

I don't know if had had FE 20's from new. It's a 2002, but not FE. The scan said front right, but having read more this afternoon I'm becoming suspicious of damp around the brakes ECU, as it only ever happens just after being washed. I did have some water build up recently from a blocked drain. A day or two later it goes again and is fine. I'll investigate in the daylight tomorrow. Perhaps I should just stop washing it!

Check in the ECU box under the windscreen scuttle for water getting in - that'll not help!

C1S in the PR codes means factory 20s

IT can also throw a fault if there is a break in the abs cables to and from the sensor and that can be triggered randomly by turning the wheel far or by going over a bump even, you can check if it's the sensor or not by swapping them with the diagonally opposite one and if the fault moves then you know it's got to be the sensor
